About the Business Days Calculator

A business day (also called a working day) is any day that is not a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) and not a public holiday. Business days are the standard measure for deadlines in finance, shipping, legal agreements, and project management.

How to Use

Count Business Days Between Dates: Select a start date and an end date to see exactly how many working days fall between them. The calculator excludes weekends and, optionally, US federal holidays.

Add or Subtract Business Days: Enter a starting date and the number of business days to add or subtract. The calculator will skip weekends and holidays to give you the target calendar date.

US Federal Holidays

The calculator recognizes 10 US federal holidays. Fixed-date holidays (New Year's Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Christmas Day) fall on the same date each year. Floating holidays (MLK Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving) are observed on specific weekdays. Toggle the holiday option to include or exclude these from your calculation, or add custom dates to exclude for your organization.

Common Uses

  • Calculate shipping delivery dates (e.g., "3-5 business days")
  • Determine payment due dates and financial settlement periods
  • Plan project timelines and sprint schedules
  • Compute legal deadlines (court filings, notice periods)
  • Track vacation and paid time off accrual
  • Estimate payroll processing schedules

Business Day Conventions

In most countries, a standard business week runs Monday through Friday. The US, UK, Canada, and much of Europe follow this pattern. Some countries in the Middle East use Sunday through Thursday as their business week. This calculator uses the Mon-Fri convention. The count includes the start date but excludes the end date, which is the standard convention used in most financial and legal contexts.
