About Tasbih & Dhikr

Tasbih (تسبيح) refers to the act of glorifying Allah through the repetition of short prayers and phrases. A Tasbih counter (also called Misbaha or prayer beads) is traditionally used to keep track of these recitations.

Common Dhikr Phrases

Subhanallah (سبحان الله): "Glory be to Allah" - Glorification of Allah's perfection
Alhamdulillah (الحمد لله): "All praise is due to Allah" - Expressing gratitude to Allah
Allahu Akbar (الله أكبر): "Allah is the Greatest" - Affirming Allah's supremacy
La ilaha illallah (لا إله إلا الله): "There is no god but Allah" - The testimony of faith
Astaghfirullah (أستغفر الله): "I seek forgiveness from Allah" - Asking for Allah's forgiveness

The 33-33-34 Pattern

After each prayer, it is Sunnah to recite:

  • Subhanallah 33 times
  • Alhamdulillah 33 times
  • Allahu Akbar 34 times

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recommended this practice for spiritual rewards and inner peace.

Benefits of Dhikr

  • Increases mindfulness and God-consciousness (Taqwa)
  • Brings peace and tranquility to the heart
  • Earns immense spiritual rewards
  • Strengthens faith and connection with Allah
  • Protects from negative thoughts and influences
