💡 Meeting Tips

  • • Start with a clear agenda
  • • Assign a timekeeper
  • • Reserve last 5 min for action items
  • • End meetings 5 min early when possible

Time the decision, not just the calendar block

Give every meeting a finish condition

A countdown protects the agenda only when everyone knows the outcome. Before starting, state what must be decided, produced, or assigned by zero. Put updates in writing when they do not need live discussion, reserve a closing block for owners and dates, and keep a small buffer for the unexpected.

How to use the meeting timer

  1. 01

    Name the outcome

Write the decision or deliverable the meeting must produce.

  2. 02

    Allocate the blocks

Give context, discussion, decision, and close their own limits.

  3. 03

    Start together

Begin the clock after the outcome and agenda are visible.

  4. 04

    Close deliberately

Use the final minutes for owners, dates, risks, and the next check-in.

Agenda timing examples

These are planning examples, not fixed rules. Shorten the update block when information can be read beforehand, and protect the decision and close blocks so the meeting produces a usable result.

15-minute standup

  • 2 min · goal and attendance
  • 9 min · progress and blockers

  • 1 min · confirm next check-in

30-minute decision meeting

  • 5 min · context and decision needed
  • 12 min · options and evidence
  • 8 min · decide and test objections
  • 5 min · owners, dates, and recap

60-minute team meeting

  • 5 min · desired outcome
  • 15 min · essential updates
  • 25 min · focused discussion
  • 10 min · decisions and actions

Use the warnings as agenda signals

At five minutes remaining, stop opening new topics and move toward the decision. At one minute, read back the action, owner, and date. If the group has not reached the outcome, schedule the next step instead of hiding unfinished work behind a rushed agreement.

Add time only with consent

The +5, +10, and +15 minute controls are useful when a decision is worth extending. Say what the extra block will accomplish, confirm the affected participants can stay, and record a new stop time. Otherwise, capture the unresolved question and end as planned.

Meeting timer questions

How do the five-minute and one-minute warnings work?

The page changes color when five minutes remain and again during the final minute. It also attempts to play a short sound at those checkpoints, although browser or device settings may block audio.

Can I set a custom meeting length?

Yes. Enter a whole number from 1 to 240 minutes and select Set. The timer resets to that duration and is ready to start.

What happens when I add time during a meeting?

The selected amount is added to both the remaining time and the timer duration. Use it only after the group explicitly agrees to extend the meeting and understands what the extra time should accomplish.

Can I use the meeting timer on Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet?

Yes. Share the browser window so participants can see the same countdown and warning colors. Keep the agenda or decision document in a separate window if the timer needs to stay visible.

Does the timer store meeting notes or attendee information?

No. The timer does not ask for attendee names, meeting notes, or agenda text. It only manages the countdown in your browser.
